Product Introduction
The operation test of Taber Abrasion Tester is applicable to abrasion tests of materials such as leather, fabric, coatings, paper, floor tiles, plywood, glass, and natural rubber. The method involves cutting specimens with a standard cutter, using a specified type of grinding wheel, applying a certain load, and subjecting the specimens to abrasion. After a specified number of revolutions, the specimens are taken out to observe their post – abrasion condition or measure the weight difference between the specimens before and after the test. The formula for calculating the abrasion index is: (Abrasion Loss Weight / Number of Test Revolutions) × 1000. Available grinding wheel numbers include: H – 18, H – 22, CS – 10, CS – 17, CS – 32, CS – 33.
Compliant Standards:
ISO 9352-2012
ISO 5470
ASTM D1044-05
ASTM D3884

Preparation Before the Test
Before the test, connect the instrument to the power supply and attach a vacuum cleaner to the exhaust port.
- Accessories and Other Instruments: A pair of standard grinding wheels, hard double – sided tape, and fine – grained sandpaper (for calibration). According to different standard requirements, a balance with an accuracy of 0.1mg, a fabric strength tester, an appearance evaluation light box, etc. are also needed to evaluate the test results.
- Specimens: Cut the specimens to be approximately 110mm in size, with an 8mm hole in the center. If it is necessary to compare the weight change of the specimens before and after the test, the original weight of the specimens should be measured in advance. (If the specimens are fabrics and need to be fixed with double – sided tape, after sticking the standard double – sided tape, remove the outer sticker and weigh the total weight.) If it is necessary to compare the strength change of the specimens before and after the test, the original strength should be tested before the test. When comparing other properties such as haze, corresponding tests should be carried out before the test to determine the original parameters. The specimens need to be pre – conditioned for at least 8 hours.
- Speed Adjustment: After powering on, start the instrument with the two arms raised. According to the display on the digital display meter, adjust the speed – regulating knob to the required speed.
Test Steps 01
1.Mount the Specimen
1.Place the cut specimen on the test bench in accordance with the standard requirements.
2.Keep the specimen flat, tighten the compression nut and gasket, and use a hexagonal wrench to fasten the specimen fixing ring.
2.Install the Abrasion Wheel and Weights
1.Install the pre – abraded standard abrasion wheel on the inner front side of the balance arm and tighten the compression nut.
2.Install the corresponding weight or balance weight according to the required pressure.
3.Install the abrasion wheel of the corresponding specification according to the requirements for the abrasion wheel specifications of different materials in the relevant standards.
3.Start the Test
1.Turn on the power switch.
2.Set the preset number of revolutions on the counter.
3.Press the start button, and the motor drives the turntable to start rotating.
Notes:
- When the grinding wheel is worn to the point where the sticker is exposed or the surface of the grinding wheel is uneven, it needs to be replaced.
- Before testing each sample, clean the grinding wheel with a brush.
Test Steps 02
- Evaluation of Specimen Results
- After reaching the preset number of revolutions, the instrument stops automatically. Or, according to different standard requirements, when the test end – point is reached, press the red stop button to stop the test, and then turn off the vacuum cleaner.
- Take out the specimen for evaluation.
- Evaluation Methods (for reference only, see the specific standards for details):
- Mass Loss Method
Use a balance accurate to 0.1mg to weigh the specimen (together with the double – sided tape fixing the specimen) before and after the test respectively, and calculate the percentage of weight loss. - Strength Loss Method
Use a strength tester to test the strength of the specimen before and after the test, and calculate the percentage of strength loss. - Appearance Change after the Preset Number of Revolutions
Conduct an appearance assessment after reaching the preset number of revolutions (usually including whether it is worn through, changes in light transmittance, etc.).
- Mass Loss Method
